Why We Changed Our Subscription Model

After five months of operation, we’ve learned a lot here at Picmonic. We’ve learned more about ourselves, our customers, and our company. And we’ve learned that the best thing about serving students is how honest and understanding they are when it comes to changes.

Moving into the summer and the month of June, we decided to make changes to our subscription, packaging, and pricing models. The timing is right, with most students taking Step 1 before the end of the month, and with the release of our second product.

Here is what you can expect from the new pricing, subscription, and packaging options:

1. One package option. We’ve been tracking our student purchasing behavior and perceptions closely, and an overwhelming majority (about 99%) of you are only interested in purchasing the full collection. We’ve been adding new cards regularly to our Step 1 Collection, and it’s becoming more of a comprehensive medical-school-study-tool than we ever anticipated. We felt our store was getting bogged down with tons of miniature stacks of cards, when we knew the best value for students was to subscribe to the whole shebang. So now, we’re focusing on just one option: Picmonic for Medicine.

2. A monthly subscription option. We’ve discovered there’s really no one-size-fits-all option for our students. So we created an option that’s more flexible, and super simple. It’s a monthly Picmonic subscription option that will act like a standard membership, charging you only once per month until you cancel. So whether you need a subscription for one month or seven and a half, there’s an affordable option to meet your needs.

3. A new MCAT Biology product in the store. Since we’ve had so much success teaching medical students a new way to master information with pictures, it’s logical that we’d start to expand our horizons. We didn’t want to stray too far, so we looked down the medical school ladder to pre-medical students. We created a MCAT Biology product to help pre-meds ace the biology section faster and gain those points with more confidence. Its new home is in the Picmonic store.

We’ve made some changes to our standard Picmonic subscription lengths, which still require upfront payments, as well. All of the pricing details can be viewed in the Picmonic store, or on the pricing pages, picmonic.com/medicine/pricing and picmonic.com/mcat/pricing.

Thanks for being with us throughout this journey. We couldn’t do it without your feedback and support, and were excited to continue to make Picmonic better for students.
