"Wish I'd Used Picmonic Earlier”"

I wish I would have used this my M1 year. That was my hardest year. I actually used Sketchy for the entirety of my M2 year, and I didn't consider using Picmonic until I started to seriously study for STEP1. I originally got it only for biochemistry, but I ended up using it for every subject. I wish I had a time machine to tell my young self about this resource that makes studying enjoyable. It filled so many spots neglected by Sketchy. I also love the ability to make your own. The world is opened up to every hard subject becoming easy. I've also told many people that don't like longer Sketchy videos to use Picmonic. Great videos, great variety, and new stuff available all the time!

"275: Dream STEP Score"

Med Student
True Blue - St Georges University School of Medicine

Picmonic has been a huge part of my learning. I just took the first UWORLD simulation exam and I scored a 275 (99% percentile) and it’s definitely because of Picmonic. Picmonic is for the students who want to excel because they were the ones who knew that extra small detail that changed their score from a 239 to a 245 or a 249 to 255….because one extra correct question on the actual USMLE can mean a few extra points.

"Enjoyable, Wacky & Memorable"

I used Picmonic for my first medical school course which covered genetics, molecular biology, cell biology and a little bit of metabolism. The lysosomal storage disease videos made learning and memorizing the information much easier and more enjoyable. I am a visual and auditory learner and the Picmonic cartoons and funny narratives really cement the information in my brain. The videos for Biochemistry and Biostat are amazing and saved me time. I definitely recommend using Picmonic during year one of medical school and beyond!

"Built-in Spaced Repetition"

Picmonic is the most powerful memory aid I’ve ever used. It’s impossible to forget stories like those of Taco-lioness and the Astronaut-police (for tacrolimus and azathioprine), both on test day and during clinicals. Plus Picmonic has an auto-generated spaced-repetition schedule that would have taken me hours of work every week to create myself.

"Time Efficient, Better Retention"

If time is of essence, I'd suggest Picmonic- shorter videos, spaced repetition, frequent updates, personalize your short animations etc. it just does more then just watching videos which equates to better retention.

"All 4 Years of Med School"

Picmonic is awesome because it gives me stories and photos to make information stick. If I want more than what is presented, the app is great to suggest other resources to learn from. Since the presented concepts are in short length videos, it makes it convenient to fit review into my daily clinical rotation schedule during quick breaks. I have been using Picmonic since my first year and it has remained relevant over all 4 years of school.

Why Visual Learners Use Picmonic

Picmonic Is Different

Picmonic is the only visual learning resource for STEP and COMLEX with powerful creator tools students can use to create the perfect study resource for them. Personalization isn’t something offered by other resources such as Physeo. Add facts, characters, images and videos. Customization also helps with retention, and can become an integral part of a robust study routine.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Physeo?

Physeo is a medical school student resource with conceptual videos and story-based image mnemonics. Conceptual lectures teach with an emphasis on helping you understand underlying mechanisms and processes. Each of the 800+ image mnemonics are designed to be comprehensive, concise, and memorable.

Is Physeo good for USMLE Step 1?

Physeo med school resources are good for STEP 1 studying, but only covers 800+ topics. Supplementing with another visual mnemonic-based study tool is possible (for coverage of all hi-yield topics that will be covered on STEP 1), but you give up the benefit of being able to easily connect related facts across all STEP 1 topics. Also, the lack of consistent story-based characters (between Physeo and other products) may create confusion while studying, and result in lack of efficiency in remembering related facts. Selecting the right tool to study with from your first year in medical school is important to ensure you have a strong foundation for reviewing all STEP 1 topics in your second year.

Is Physeo free?

Physeo offers free access to all microbiology and select videos with ads and limited features. For full access to all 800+ Physeo videos, companion PDF textbooks, downloadable Anki decks, Zanki integration, mnemonic review feature, progress tracking, downloadable audio, access to quiz questions, adjustable speed feature and topic index, there are monthly, annual and 2-year plans available. You might also be able to find a Physeo discount code if you search the internet.

How many videos does Physeo have?

There are 800+ Physeo videos in the areas of pharmacology, microbiology, immunology, anatomy, embryology and biochemistry, a limited selection of topics that does not cover the breadth of topics that med students study when prepping for STEP.

Is Physeo worth it?

If you were to subscribe to Physeo monthly for 1 year, the cost of Physeo would be $600. The same access to Picmonic’s 1600+ topics would cost half that amount for 4x the number of topics, and lower cost plans are available.

Should I use Physeo and Picmonic together?

Physeo’s conceptual lectures may be helpful for re-learning a topic if lectures did not work for you the first time around. However, when it’s time to review for an exam or for STEP 1, Picmonic will be the more efficient resource across all topics given Picmonic’s more comprehensive coverage of high-yield med school topics.

Does Physeo have an Anki Add-On?

Physeo does not have an Anki Add-On. If you are a paid subscriber, Physeo has downloadable Anki decks, but it does not work across all Anki resources the way that Picmonic does.

What does Picmonic have that Physeo does not have?

Physeo does NOT have:

  • Built-in Spaced Repetition
  • Recall quizzes (play-learn-quiz)
  • Customization
  • Related Facts (connect related topics)
  • Real-life imagery
  • Alignment with First Aid (so you can use Picmonic as you study First Aid page by page)
  • Anki Add-On, to access Picmonic from any Anki deck

By the Numbers

Over 1 million healthcare students have used Picmonic to ace exams and boards/certifications on their way to becoming successful professionals.
