Picmonic
The pH blood and urine lab values are important in diagnosing many metabolic, respiratory, and urinary disorders. The blood pH is maintained in a very narrow range of 7.35 to 7.45 which is slightly basic. The normal urine pH is maintained at a much larger range and is affected by a variety of factors. Optimally the urine is acidic but is considered normal between a range of 4.0 to 8.0.
4 KEY FACTS
Blood
Blood

Blood pH is typically regulated by the respiratory and renal system and is kept within a small normal range that makes it slightly basic.

7.35 - 7.45
Lucky (7) . (3) Tree (5) Hand - Lucky (7) . (4) Fork (5) Hand

The normal blood pH is kept within a narrow range. Values below 7.35 are termed acidosis, and values above 7.45 are termed alkalosis.

Urine
Urinal

Urine pH levels vary based on several factors but are often more acidic in the morning because no food or fluids are being consumed. The normal range varies among labs but is 4.0 - 8.0.

4.0 - 8.0
(4) Fork - (8) Ball

A normal range is 4.0 to 8.0. Urine pH is usually maintained in an acidic state to prevent bacterial growth. Metabolic problems are often the cause of changes in urine pH levels and are not optimal as the kidneys attempt to buffer acid levels in the body.
