The standard formula method is one of the ways to solve dosage calculations. The formula has three terms; the dose ordered, which is the amount of medication prescribed, the amount on hand, which is the quantity of medication that contains the dose on hand, and the dose on hand, which is the medication provided by the pharmacy. It is important to ensure that the measures in the formula are the same unit and system of measurement before calculating the dose. The equation for the standard formula method is: dose ordered divided by dose on hand multiplied by the amount on hand, which equals the amount to administer.
