8.\u00a0Direct Cholinomimetics<\/a><\/strong><\/h4>

\r\n\r\nDirect cholinomimetics are drugs which work as agonists at muscarinic cholinoreceptors and increase parasympathetic activity.\u00a0<\/p>
\r\n\r\n

9.\"cholinomimetics\"\u00a0Indirect Cholinomimetics<\/a><\/strong><\/h4>

Indirect cholinomimetics, also known as anticholinesterases, work to decrease the action of the acetylcholinesterase enzyme (which works to break down acetylcholine).<\/p>\r\n\r\n


10.\u00a0Anticholinergics<\/a><\/strong><\/h4>

\r\n\r\nAnticholinergic drugs act by decreasing cholinergic transmission and are also known as muscarinic antagonists. Commonly used anticholinergic medications include Benztropine, Oxybutynin, Atropine and Scopolamine.<\/p>
\r\n\r\n

11.\u00a0\"nonselectiveNonselective \u03b1\u00a0Blockers<\/a><\/strong><\/h4>

\r\n\r\nPhentolamine and phenoxybenzamine are drugs which lower blood pressure by inhibiting vasoconstriction through their action at\u00a0\u03b11, while also having action at\u00a0\u03b12\u00a0receptors.<\/p>
\r\n\r\n

12.\u00a0Octreotide<\/a><\/strong><\/h4>

\r\n\r\nOctreotide is a long-acting somatostatin-analog with various indications. It is used acutely to help stop variceal bleeds. It is used for a wide range of hormone-secreting tumors, as this medication inhibits the secretion and activity of various endocrine hormones.<\/p>
\r\n\r\n

13.\u00a0\"anticholinergics\"Anticholinergics Continued<\/a><\/strong><\/h4>

\r\n\r\nAnticholinergic medications are used to decrease cholinergic transmission and are also referred to as muscarinic antagonists. The medication glycopyrrolate blocks muscarinic activity on airway secretions, as well as stomach acid secretions.<\/p>
\r\n\r\n

14. Levothyroxine<\/a><\/strong><\/h4>

\r\n\r\nLevothyroxine is a synthetic T4 that is converted to T3 by 5\u2019deiodinase in peripheral tissues. T3 and to a smaller degree, T4, then bind to thyroid hormone nuclear receptors in target cells to exert their effects.<\/p>
\r\n\r\n

15.\u00a0\"PTU\"PTU (Propylthiouracil)\/ Methimazole<\/a><\/strong><\/h4>

\r\n\r\nPropylthiouracil (PTU) and methimazole are two commonly used medications in patients with hyperthyroidism. Both drugs block the action of thyroid peroxidase, thus inhibiting thyroid hormone synthesis.\r\n<\/p>
\r\n

16.\u00a0Metformin<\/a><\/strong><\/h4>

\r\n\r\nMetformin is part of the Biguanide class of diabetic drugs. It is the first line medical treatment for diabetes mellitus type 2 and can also be used for PCOS.<\/p>
\r\n\r\n

17.\u00a0\"clindamycin\"Clindamycin<\/a><\/strong><\/h4>

\r\n\r\nClindamycin is a bacteriostatic antibiotic commonly used to treated infections with anaerobic bacteria. It is a bacterial protein synthesis inhibitor that binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit and inhibits ribosomal translocation, similar to macrolides.<\/p>
\r\n\r\n

18. Acetylcholinesterase Inhibitor Poisoning<\/a><\/strong><\/h4>

\r\n\r\nAcetylcholinesterase inhibitor poisoning, also known as organophosphate toxicity and cholinergic overdose,\u00a0is often seen in farmers, as organophosphates are commonly found in insecticides.<\/p>
\r\n\r\n

19. \"epinephrine\"Epinephrine<\/a><\/strong><\/h4>

\r\n\r\nEpinephrine is a direct sympathomimetic that is used for the treatment of hypotension, anaphylaxis, and open-angle glaucoma. It is most commonly administered intravenously and is metabolized extensively by the liver prior to excretion.<\/p>
\r\n\r\n

20.\u00a0NSAIDs<\/a><\/strong><\/h4>

\r\n\r\nNonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic agents. Many drugs fall into this drug family including ibuprofen, naproxen, indomethacin, ketorolac and aspirin among many others.\r\n\r\n\u00a0<\/p>
