Research Program

As part of the Research Program, we’ll be collecting a litany of subjective and objective data around your learning habits, experiences, etc that will be correlated and analyzed across the thousand participants in the study. To better understand how, where, and when students most effectively prepare for critical exams, we’ll compare your scores to a similar control group of students.

Contribute to our Research Program by:

  1. Providing relevant academic and demographic information
  2. Submitting board scores
All current Picmonic for Medicine subscribers may opt into this Research Program too! Just check your dashboard to get started. Below you’ll find additional research details!

RESEARCH ON STUDENT BOARD EXAM SCORES: IMPROVEMENT USING THE PICMONIC LEARNING SYSTEM

Wm. Kendall Wyatt Adeel Yang Ron Robertson

Introduction: Learning and, more importantly, remembering tens of thousands of medical facts has long been the hurdle students have to overcome. USMLE and COMLEX exam scores have long been the standardized measurement of success. The purpose of this research study is to evaluate usage patterns of students who use the Picmonic Learning System and correlate trends to students’ board exam scores compared to the published national average scores. Method: For a period between 05/05/2016 and 06/30/2016, students who use the Picmonic Learning System will be presented with the opportunity to “opt in” as participants for research purposes. Participants will be presented with a pre-survey regarding their personal study habits, school of enrollment, as well as other demographical information. Participants’ use habits and level of interaction with the Picmonic Learning System including but not limited to: number of Picmonics viewed, audio play duration, and Quiz results will be recorded and maintained throughout the study. As indicated by survey data, participants will submit their exam score reports by uploading into the Picmonic Learning System. Score reports will be categorized by demographic information and correlated to their subsequent Picmonic Learning System habits.

FAQs

I’D LIKE TO CONTRIBUTE! HOW CAN I OPT INTO THIS RESEARCH PROGRAM?

We’d be thrilled to have your participation. Just submit your exam date on your dashboard, and you’ll automatically be opted into participating. When you’ve taken your exam, you’ll see a place on your dashboard that will allow you to submit your score.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I’VE JOINED THE RESEARCH PROGRAM, BUT I DON’T SUBMIT MY SCORES?

By joining the Research Program, you’ve agreed to submit your scores. The more data we get, the more statistically significant the results are (and we all know how important that is)! An important part of making this Research Program a success is having your participation and support. However, if you choose not to participate, we promise we won’t jump out of your iPad with a nerf gun, ready for battle…probably.

HOW MUCH TIME WILL THIS REQUIRE OF ME?

This should only require about five minutes of your time TOTAL. We’ll ask you to fill out at least one survey and submit your exam scores, but other than that, we just ask that you study (which you were doing already anyway)!

We hope we were able to answer all your questions here. If you have any additional questions or comments, contact us.
